What happens when you give kids the space to explore ideas?
What happens when you give kids the space to explore ideas? How young is too young for an artist portfolio?
Those were the questions behind the Bowery-Middlesex Portfolio Summer Camp for Kids — a spin-off of the AP Art experience you might find in a high school classroom, but reimagined for a younger group of artists. Over four weeks, students ages 8 -12 explored artistic themes, brainstormed ideas, experimented with different techniques, created their own portfolio pieces, and — perhaps most importantly — learned how to talk about their work and the ideas behind it.
The Importance of the Artist Bio
One of the ingredients to a successful career in the arts - aside from having a growing portfolio of quality artworks - is recognition. You want to be talked about, followed, written about, invited to events, and collected. For this to happen you need a growing fanbase. We rely on social media, particularly Instagram, to do the heavy lifting in this arena, but more needs to be said about you than a mere photo of your latest painting. And it all starts with an effective Artist Bio.
